Vitiligo Facts
28 years of experience, entirely devoted to the treatment of vitiligo, dictate that we speak clearly to our patients about three vitiligo facts:
1. Vitiligo is not contagious
2. Vitiligo makes no distinction
3. There is no definitive cure for Vitiligo
There is clearly no cure for vitiligo, but there are several effective alternative treatments that can be discussed with an experienced and qualified vitiligo dermatologist who can facilitate significant and rapid improvement of the extent of your problem.
The goal of vitiligo treatment is:
- to prevent the expansion of new skin lesions,
- to achieve rapid and significant repigmentation rates and
- to maintain the high rates of repigmentation achieved.
Anything else indicated is far from the guidelines of global vitiligo organizations and the expert opinion of vitiligo specialists.
A combination of treatments, such as topically-applied galenic formulations at our centers, may substantially improve approximately 70% of vitiligo patients.
Optimal results are achieved when early signs of vitiligo have appeared and have affected face, neck and torso.
Rapid repigmentation is more frequently observed in young people than adults. Repigmentation has a significant impact on the psychological status of patients.
Lastly, vitiligo improvement is better achieved when treated on time by a specialist and not by a therapist claiming to be an expert.
